Because the Holston shifts dynamically based on Cherokee Dam’s daily generation schedule, we pivot seamlessly between technical trout tactics on the upper river and aggressive predator setups downstream:

Spectacular Dry Fly Fishing: When the legendary Caddis or Sulphurs are blanketing the surface, we switch to light leaders and meticulous surface patterns for some of the most exciting, visual dry-fly fishing in East Tennessee as we target rising trout in the glassy flats.

Dry-Dropper Rigs: During spring months, suspending a small, active nymph beneath a high-floating caddis or terrestrial pattern covers two columns of water at once and triggers aggressive strikes.

Light Nymphing with New Zealand Indicators: For high-pressure situations and low-water conditions, an ultra-stealthy New Zealand strike indicator setup allows incredibly delicate presentations, ensuring small midge and pupae patterns drift flawlessly through shallow riffles without spooking wary fish.

Streamer Fishing & Shad Kills: When cold water temps trigger a shad kill, the heavy rods come out. Stripping large, white articulated streamers on sinking lines is the premier way to target the river’s apex, predatory Brown trout as they gorge on stunned baitfish.

Topwater Smallmouth Bass: The lower 35 miles transition into an elite warm-water playground. When summer heat sets in, throwing large poppers, sliding bugs, and hair patterns tight to deep ledges and rocky banks triggers explosive, visual top water strikes from resident smallmouth.
